Rapsodia Manzoniana it’s a docufilm on Alessandro Manzoni’s cultural heritage which will air on RAI 3 in prime time around the ending of November. A docufilm that narrates a theatre group’s preparation journey to their “Manzonian” play.

Rapsodia Manzoniana does not want to recount Manzoni’s life nor outline a conventional analysis of his greater work, The Betrothed. Rapsodia Manzoniana is a docufilm which instead mends, reunites the ethical, social, cultural and religious themes and ideals that Manzoni – throughout his literary poetics and, in particular, his masterpiece – wanted to address. This explains the choice of the word “rhapsody” (from ancient Greek “rhaptein”, meaning “to sew”, e “oide”, “song”): our docufilm gathers and sews the Manzonian values.

One recurring aspect that has marked Manzoni’s life, as well as the stories of this literary work, is the “crossroad” theme. Ethical lemmas often require a choice between two extremes: truth or fiction, ideal or beneficial, right or wrong. Not surprisingly The Betrothed starts with a crossroad, both metaphorical and literal, which risks the already-faint intellectual honesty and nobility of spirit of don Abbondio. Rapsodia Manzoniana renovates such dilemma by making it contemporary.

For now, this is all we can tell you, but soon we’ll come back with new updates…
